Meet Dr Dunay, your audiology specialist
Dunay was born a hearing and communication specialist. Hailing from South Africa, her first “clinic” was convened in the sandpit area at the ripe age of four. While not exactly collaborative, she lined up three friends who, she felt, did not listen or say their sounds properly. She has since apologised to all of them.
It is no surprise then that she pursued a career in Speech Pathology and Audiology which had taken her all over the world as a clinician, academic and supervisor. She holds a PhD and clinical doctorate in Audiology. As her career progressed, and her work with families and patients became more complex, she pursued a Master of Counselling degree which allows her to walk alongside people with hearing and tinnitus difficulties with great skill and many tools available.
She has been a valued teacher and researcher in both formal higher education (Macquarie University and University of Queensland Audiology training programmes). One of her recent accomplishments was adding over 16 hours of teaching and practical content in Counselling for hearing loss. Her lectures, workshops and keynotes are well-attended by fellow clinicians, including allied health, medical personnel, veterinary scientist and educators.
As former Head of Audiology at the Princess Margaret Children’s Hospital in Perth, her team approach was featured on Today Tonight. As Director of Audiology at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, she was an invited to contribute to the core values of what it means to work in a healthcare setting. Former chair of Wellness and Culture in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at UQ, she launched many initiatives around thriving at work. She is a former Women in STEMM Fellowship recipient.
