When is it time for a hearing test?

If anyone in the conversation has an untreated hearing loss, everyone in the conversation has a hearing problem.

Are you:

You can start with a self assessment

A self-assessment is often useful in confirming what you have suspected in the comfort of your own home. It gives a non-threatening entry point into approaching hearing loss. The results will show whether you would benefit from a comprehensive hearing assessment with a qualified audiologist.

What is involved in a comprehensive hearing assessment?

  • An otoscopic examination of the outer ear structure, ear canal and eardrum to assess wax build up, infections, and any abnormalities of the eardrum.
  • Assessment of the function of the middle ear and associated structures.
  • Testing for the softest sound you can hear across low, mid-range and high-pitched tones to decide your hearing profile.
  • Your hearing performance when presented with speech at conversation level.
  • Inner ear health measures to predict and describe any subtle inner ear difficulties.
  • The hearing assessment is particularly important as it guides both you and the audiologist in making right referrals and recommendations.

At the conclusion of the assessment, you will have an opportunity to review the results with the audiologist, ask questions and start planning for treatment if needed. You and your GP will be provided with a report that summarises the findings and recommendations of the hearing assessment. .
